Mungania Tea Factory

For years, Mungania Tea Factory has embedded responsible business values and strict sustainability standards in their business model. Each year, the Factory invests in a number of environmental conservation and community empowerment projects such as:
- Education bursaries for needy students.
- Built a perimeter wall for a milk cooling center in the community to enhance security and hygiene by keeping trespassers out of the milk cooling center.
- Mungania's catchment is quite cold and the community has adopted use of firewood to keep warm as well as daily cooking. In order to reduce deforestation as well as smoke-related health issues, Mungania donated energy saving jikos that are easy to light, have limited smoke therefore reducing deforestation and emissions that cause respiratory health challenges.
- To enhance farmer incomes, Mungania invested in Artificial Insemination services to support their farmers to breed dairy cows that give higher milk production. They also employed a permanent veterinary officer to support farmers on need basis. Farmers in the Mungania catchment are now not only earning incomes from tea but also dairy farming.
